If you go to the Windows Settings or Control Panel for sound and list your input devices there, does the device show up there? If it doesn't, that's what you need to fix, as I'm fairly certain that LabVIEW can't get sound from anything not detected by the system.

Kyle pretty much summed it up. Your laptop has a built in webcam that is fully integrated and your PC comes with the according drivers pre-installed to interface to it. In addition most laptops also come with an integrated microphone that is NOT part of the camera itself but simply an independent device. The laptop comes with pre-installed drivers for the webcam, the separate microphone and the tiny loudspeaker, which is also not part of the webcam itself.
Your PC has likely an external webcam connected through USB and that camera might or might not have an integrated microphone. Your desktop PC usually doesn't have a pre-installed microphone of its own. So either your external webcam does not really have a microphone, or your driver you installed doesn't support it, or it is not properly configured in the device settings.

I know this is a "Captain Obvious" question, but can you use it with any other apps? (Like the test panel?)
