Max freezes when adding Devices.

When I try to add a new device to MAX "Devices and interfaces / create new / simulated NI -DAQmx" It freezes. I've contacted Tech support and they have had me try a few things but nothing is working. Has anyone had this issue and found something that hasn't been though of? It's not just the simulated devices, it's any add.

- Installed 2023 Q3

- No previous NI installed ,new installation

- Does not show any errors, just sits there with that circle turning around.

Tried

1) Uninstalling the NI software (The right way) and re installing it

2) Looked in the Event Viewer (Windows Logs/System) looking for the driver that may be causing the issue. By looking for NiPALK in the source column. There was no entry that matches this. as per this link "NI MAX Hangs When Opening "Devices and Interfaces" Section - NI"

3) Removed my computer from the network in case it was trying to scan network

4) removed all hardware connected to computer

5) removed NI software again ( the proper way) and installed 2023 Q1 instead, same issue

6) Reset Data base according to tech support "Reset and Fix the NI Measurement & Automation Explorer Database File - NI"

7) Repaired NIPM according to tech support "Repair Software in NI Package Manager (NIPM) - NI"

😎 Sent in the NI Max report to tech support for review

The only additional solution NI can give me is to Reimage my computer which I am desperately trying to avoid ( Had many many issues with other installed programs last time I did that). They will not forward my issue to R&D until I Reimage my computer..

Any additional help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Can you download Procmon (Process monitor) and see what MAX is accessing when it's frozen?  Could give a hint.

Also, when you refer to uninstalling "the right way"/"the proper way", can you clarify what you believe is the "right way"/"proper way"?

After these uninstalls, did you check to be sure no traces remained?  These locations are ones I know of:

C:\ProgramData\National Instruments

(Note that C:\ProgramData is hidden unless you manually unhide it or config your PC to show hidden folders)

C:\Program Files\National Instruments

C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments

C:\Users\<your user name>\Documents\LabVIEW Data

C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\National Instruments

C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\National_Instruments

C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\National_Instruments_corp

I saw a lot of post on here where people are not uninstalling the correct way, So I wanted to mention that I followed NI's recommendation for uninstalling, Just forgot to attach the link to the support doc.

Uninstall NI Software or Driver and All Its Components - NI

and then this link

Uninstalling NI Package Manager - NI

I'll have to install that program to mentioned and se if that shows anything. Also, there was nothing in the file locations you mentioned, So I assumed that it was totally wiped.

Thanks.

How long have you waited while MAX is adding a device?  On my system it can take several minutes (I don't know why it takes so long).

Are you able to replicate the issue on multiple machines, or is it just on your machine?

I also agree with NI Tech Support, minor issues in the OS can cause weird things to happen, and re-imaging is typically a much easier than tracking down the minor issues.

will sit there for hours waiting (No me, just the program.. lol).... and there are other machines in our lab that had the install went perfectly. Just mine.

Well, I am just going to have to accept my issues and move on. It's easier for me to buy a cheap laptop and put Labview on it then it is to re-image this computer to solve the issue.

Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately it looks like the only solution is to re-image which I am unable to do.

Regards,
