NI-CAN 2.7.3 install

Solved!
Go to solution

I downloaded the NI-CAN 2.7.3 file from NI to install the CAN drivers and VIs into my LabVIEW 2011 SP1 software already on the machine, a 32 bit machine, and all went well with the CAN VIs showing up in the Measurement  I/O Functions menu exactly as expected.  Then I took the same install file and copied it to another machine, a 64 bit machine, and installed the CAN package on that machine. The installation went through without any difficulties.  But when I went to Functions Menu for Measurement I/O no CAN VIs were to be found! I can't see where I did anything wrong and I am at a loss to figure out how to get the CAN VIs to show up in the Functions pallette as they should! Any answer to this quagmire?

Did you have LabVIEW 32-bit or 64-bit installed on your 64-bit computer? During installation did it actually have the "development support" option selected (i.e., it saw that you had LabVIEW)?

I do have the 32 bit LabVIEW version up and running on the laptop. I downloaded the CAN install file from NI and used it to install the software package.  I also looked at MAX and now MAX shows CAN Channels in the Data Neighborhood, which to me tells me that that the CAN package was installed or how else could MAX see it! Actually clicking on the CAN Channel icon in MAX now displays a whole list of CAN things to do like Create a CAN  Message and the like. So again MAX says that the install worked!  When I go into Program Files/ National Instruments / NI-CAN folder there is a whole assortment of files along with the readme file, and folders all related to CAN, so again it seems like the installer worked!  As a matter of fact I also had to install NI_DAQ onto the same laptop, so I went to NI and loaded in the DAQ download file and ran this on the same machine to install DAQ. Same results! There is no DAQ or CAN selection folders in the Measurement I/O pallette or any of the other pallettes!  I do need to use both of these tools and am a complete loss of how to fix these two problems with the installation.
