NI VISA issues

Hi Guys,

So a while back my computer stopped recognizing instruments in NI MAX, and when running labview, I can't see the instruments in the VISA Resource controls.  I am sure that everything was working fine previously, and I really don't think that I had made any changes to my software that could cause this issue.  Before I say anything more, here's my software.

LabVIEW 2016 64-bit

NI VISA 17.0

All the other software that is automatically installed with these

Was working with these instruments:

Thorlabs PM100USB power meter

MDO3052 O-Scope

BK Precision 9131B

Now I cant connect to anything(although if I export my VI's to applications, Along with VISA and LabVIEW Runtime, they connect fine to other computers).

Things I have tried:

Re-installing Labview and NI VISA

Repairing NI VISA

Intsalling NI 488.2

Uninstalling 488.2

About to try:  Uninstalling NI VISA 17.0, Install NI VISA 16.0

Any input is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Mattias

Are you running on Windows 10?  What "flavor" (Home, Pro, etc.)?  I assume 64-bit, right?

Have you ever installed LabVIEW 2017 on this machine?  I do see that you put on VISA 2017 (bad), removed it (may not be enough), and then put on VISA 2016 (good), but still have the problem.

Do you know how to look at the Services that are running?  If so, look for (and write down, so you can tell us) the installed (whether running or not) Services that start with NI -- there should be about a dozen (on my Windows 7 machine with LabVIEW 2016, I count 19).  My guess is you've lost some of them.

Running Windows 10 Professional 64-bit

NO, I've always run LV 16.

Should I check in NI MAX, or in add or remove programs?  In add or remove programs I count 33...   There are like 13 in NI MAX.  Funny thing is that is worked before just fine with NI VISA 17.0.  Do I need to upgrade to LV 17?

Thanks for the reply man.

Weird that it shows VISA 17.0 in MAX, but VISA 16.0 in add or remove programs...  Just noticed that

Did you do an NI Update?  If so, it might have updated VISA 16.0 to VISA 17.0, in which case it is probably safe.

To get to services, go to the Start menu and search for "Services" -- it should pop up Services.msc (I'm not sure what Win 10 call it -- if it says "Windows Services", that's also OK).  Don't change anything, just scroll down the list until you come to the NI Services.

I think I did update, but I cant remember if it was before I installed VISA 16.0..  See the screenshot of services.  Counted 15 total.

Very helpful, in a curious way.  I was assuming that you had a glitch on installation, which usually manifests itself (in my experience) as missing services, but you've got all of the essentials.  The only one I have that you don't (other than things I don't expect you to have) is NI Device Loader, which is only needed for "some types of NI hardware devices" -- I assume, in my case, it is referring to Cameras (I have LabVIEW Vision installed).

So I don't know what is wrong!  I just installed LabVIEW 2016 on a bunch of PCs in a Student Lab, and while it was a tad boring, they all went without a hitch.

Where did you get your LabVIEW installation stuff?  I'm installing from the NI Software Bundle, Fall 2016, that is part of our Academic License, so I know it's pure (mostly).

Straight from the NI website..  I've got to imagine that this is the best place to get it.

Thanks for trying anyways.
