Programmatically set target password on sbRIO

Hi!

I am using sbRIOs with NI Web based configuration installed. Is there any way to programmatically set target password or have it copied in when a new image is installed?

I am installing the software as an image using "Replication and Deployment Utility", but here the password is not copied with the image. Until now I have to manually set the password for all targets, it takes many resourses in the production.

Will it work if I stop using "NI Web-based configuration", but I like the abillity to set the change the password with no extra program installed (except Silverlight, that I would also like skip)

Hope there is good ideas.

Hi Anders,

Which version of the Replication and Deployment (RAD) Utility are you using? It should be possible to have the password included in the image transfer, however I have not tested it myself yet and would like to do so before making any promises.

On your system to be copied, is the username still "Admin"?

I will set up a system and make some tests, in the meantime I cite a reply from JoshuaP in this forum thread:

"The new version of the RAD should do what you are asking. Please make sure you are using the latest versions of the RAD and also ensure the controller you take the image from is in a normal running mode when you take the image with the RAD. Also ensure the target isn't in user defined safe-mode when deploying the image. It is fine if it is in safe-mode (no software installed).

The reason for all of that is we can only get the username and passwords (NI-Auth) from a target via a protected web service when the target is in a normal running mode. In addition, we can only transmit the NI-Auth stuff once the image has been transmitted and after the target boots up into a normal running mode."

We have recently discovered a bug in the NI System Configuration API that RAD uses for deploying images that prevents the usernames and passwords from properly deploying with the image if the targets current admin password differs from the one in the image.  We are currently working on a fix for NI System Configuration 15.0 that should resolve the issue.

In the mean time, I'll see if we can find a mechanism that you can use to update the admin password after the fact as a work around.

Hi!

I am using RAD 14.0.

But I am setting the target in safe mode (Press and hold the button) before retieving the image from the target. If I do not do that I am not able to retieve the Image.

I will try without application, and see if it them works.

I look forward to teh new version or a workaround.

Did this issue in sys config ever get resolved?  I have version 18.0.0 installed on an sbRIO-9627 and deploying a full image with a different user/password does not appear to be updating the login.
