Game bar doesn't work on NI PXIe-8880.

What's the best way to capture TestStand/LabVIEW screen into a video?

You mean external third party software?

SysInternals ZoomIt is probably the easiest and very light weight tool.

Unfortunately my Windows 10 version is too low.  Can't use ZoomIt.

How about something like OBS?

Well, if your OS is too old for ZoomIt and OBS Studio suggested above is "too heavy" (its really good, can recommend as well), then alternatively you can use old Nimbus Capture (but search especially for version 4.6.0). This is what I prefer personally and it always installed on my PC (the advantages - is absolutely simple and have a very good codec for usual screen recordings videos, so they have moderate size, but not very blurry after lossy compression into mp4). Its free and you don't need to have Nimbus/FuseBase account.

Unfortunately it is gone from original web size, but still available on Internet Archive:

or alternatively 4.6.0 from here:

https://nimbus-capture.software.informer.com/download/

Sitting in tray and looks like this:

Default hotkeys to record fragment Ctrl+F10 and stop/save Ctrl+F9. Can be used as "regular" screenshooter as well with simple annotation editor:

Really love this (don't know why), even with some minor bugs.

For recordings into animated GIFs I using ScreenToGif (https://www.screentogif.com).

My colleagues using ShareX (https://getsharex.com). But there are a little bit too many options from my point of view:

Latest Snipping Tool from Microsoft also can record video, but it is not for you, because Windows 11 only. Some users using Windows Steps Recorder, but in opposite, this tool will be removed soon from Windows 11.

Lot of other "Free Screen Recording" tools exists, but I haven't used/tested any other. And couple of non-free software exists like Camtasia Studio (used in the past, also not bad).

One thing I have done is use Zoom. Yes the video meeting chat client Zoom.

Start a meeting and share the screen that you want to record.

Start recording your meeting and it will record everything you do on the screen you are sharing and your voice over.

On the page of ZoomIt it claims: "ZoomIt works on all versions of Windows and you can use touch and pen input for ZoomIt drawing on tablets."

Considering Mark Russinovich's roots starting his tools with Windows NT 3 and 95, it would surprise me if he suddenly restricted the compatibility in such a way. But he has joined the dark forces 😁, so anything is possible.

Never tried it, and it isn't exactly a screen capture video, but Windows has a native "Problem Steps Recorder".

It might be better than a screen capture video in some scenarios.

Thanks Wiebe.  Already tried Step Recorder last week.  Not good enough for my purpose.  Prefer a video recorder.
