Serial RS485 Card

Hi,

I already have a Serial RS485 Card from a third party which creates virtual Comports on the system, would labview be able to access these comports, or do I need to be using NI Serial Cards which come with drivers for labview?

Thanks for any help

Kewal,

Labview will work with many third party devices.  I have had problems using devices that were not fully compliant with the standard.  A couple of simple tests should verify functionality.

I agree with Centerbolt.

A quick check would be to see if it shows up under MAX. If it does, you should be on your way.

Hi Centerbolt,

Thanks for your quick reply. You mentioned that some devices may not be fully compliant. I am not exactly sure what you meant by that. Do the cards need to come with Labview specific drivers for them to work with Labview? Or would Labview be able to recognise them as long as long as they have windows drivers?

Thanks

The standard I refered to is a standard or set of standards developed by the electronics industry to help define the functionality of a generic RS485 serial COM device.

You do not need a Labview supplied driver to use a third party serial device.

As Ben suggested, you can use MAX as a quick first test.
