Tools >> Options Page in 8.2

Hi all,

today I installed LabVIEW 8.2. Working for some time, I now suddenly cannot open the Options dialog any more. I tried restarting LabVIEW, but without success. This behaviour appears both when used from an open VI menu, as well as from the start-up dialog.

This does not seem to be known in the forums. Is there anyone out there with similar experience and help? I don't want to reinstall...

Is the menu disabled? What happens when you select it? Does LabVIEW hang, or crash, or doesn't respond at all?

Do you sometimes work with two monitors? I read about similar problems where LabVIEW got confused by this. Perhaps the dialog appears, but isn't visible. I think there's an ini file parameter that specifies some dialog positions. Perhaps it's still somewhere on the other monitor.

Hope it helps,

Wiebe.

Hi,

the menu is enabled. When I select the Options entry in the Tools Menu, the cursor changes to the hour glass for a second, then back to normal. That's it. No more reaction.

I have only one monitor, and did not fiddle around in any ini file!

Despite what you say about your INI file, I would recommend trying the following:

Close LabVIEW, rename your LabVIEW.ini file in the LabVIEW directory (typically C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2) and launch LabVIEW again.  Does the problem persist?

If so, a file on disk may have become corrupted, in which case a repair or re-install may be the most reasonable solution.  However that's more time consuming than if it's just an issue with the INI file, so I'd try the INI first.

Hi,

I had issued a support request in the meantime. Renaming / deleting the INI file did not help. Repairing the installation did not help. What helped was a complete uninstall, and fresh install from start. Hope that this does not appear again too soon... NI support had no clue at all.
