Where do I obtain RTE

This may be a stupid question but I'll ask anyway. We have LV 2010 Full Development System. If I build an executable to run on other machines, will the build include the RTE or do I need to purchase a RTE for every machine that I want to run the executable on?

It's been a while since I have done one of those (LV 7) so excuse my ignorance.

The RTE can be freely downloaded from ni.com. (posting by phone, cannot give link)

Make sure you get the 2010(std), newer versions will not work.. (There is also a smaller (min) that will also not work.)

You could also build an installer that includes the RTE. Probably recommended.

It seems that LV 7 had the choice of building an install file. I don't see that option with LV 2010, only to build an ,EXE. What did you mean by "get 2010, later ones don't work"?

The download page for the LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 2010 SP1 (32-bit) for Windows  is here - http://www.ni.com/download/labview-run-time-engine-2010-sp1/2292/en/. It is compatible with all versions of LabVIEW 2010 (including pre SP1 and SP1).

He means that if you are distributing a 2010 application, you need the LabVIEW 2010 RTE (or 2010 SP1), not a later version such as LabVIEW 2013 RTE. For more information about compatibility between RTE versions, take a look at this KnowledgeBase article - LabVIEW Run-Time Engine Compatibility

In LabVIEW 2010 you should see the option to build an installer that includes your EXE.

Thank you, I hunted all over the NI site and never found the download page for the RTE. I'll run 2010 again and try to locate the install file option. I know it used to have one in LV 7.

We also are running LV 2013, do you have a link for the 2013 RTE in case we go with that?

Thanks a bunch,

Bob

No problem! Here is the link for the 2013 SP1 RTE - http://www.ni.com/download/labview-run-time-engine-2013-sp1/4539/en/, I searched for "LabVIEW RTE 2013" and it was the 8th result (32-bit Windows). Our search can sometimes be a bit tricky if you aren't used to the keywords to search for.

Note that if you have LabVIEW 2013 installed, you probably have the installer for the RTE already on the system, so you might not need to download it at all, just take a look when you are building your installer.
