Where does the "NI Syslog Wrapper" VIPM package install its files

Solved!
Go to solution

I have just installed the NI Syslog Wrapper VIPM package but I cannot find any Syslog related VI. Searching for "syslog" in QuickDrop and in the functions search returns no results. Using Search Everything to detect any files on disk whose filename contains "syslog" returns no relevant results.

Where does this VIPM package install its files? How to use the VIPM package?

Background information

  • I would like to add Syslog functionality to an RT application I am developing for a cRIO-9045 that runs NI Linux RT.
  • There seem to be two other Syslog VIPM packages, namely NI Syslog Library and NeosoftSyslogLibrary. The NI Syslog Wrapper has the most downloads.
    • Should I use one of the other packages?
    • Is one of the three packages clearly better than the other two?

Thanks

When I install it, the files appear in vi.lib\NI\Syslog Wrapper - Linux\

To see where files will be installed, download the package and check the spec file.

In this case: C:\ProgramData\JKI\VIPM\cache\ni_lib_syslog_wrapper_linux-1.0.1.11.spec

Thanks. I can see the files in the vi.lib\NI\Syslog Wrapper - Linux\ folder.

Before posting the question I had used the following search string in the Search Everything tool: *syslog

This was a mistake. I meant to enclose the search word in asterisks but hadn't realised I did not add the second asterisk. When searching for *syslog* I see more results, including the vi.lib\NI\Syslog Wrapper - Linux\ folder. Another example of a single character making a big difference.
