XNET Compatibility

Hi all - I'm looking at upgrading our current systems from a perpetual LabVIEW2017 license to a subscription based license.

We rely heavily on XNET for CAN communications, does anyone know if the LabVIEW base license supports the use of XNET?

XNet is a device driver for CAN port devices from NI, similar to DAQmx for DAQ devices.

So when you install the XNet driver it will be available in LabVIEW, no matter which "flavor" of LabVIEW you use.

The "base" license will by crippled regarding add-ons like AppBuilder. Don't you need that?

Hi GerdW, thanks for the reply. We're planning to have one Professional license for building .exes, and save some money by assigning base licenses to the developers requiring less advanced functionality.

Then you should be fine.  Having a dedicated build server isn't that weird of an idea in other programming environments, but LabVIEW may give you some challenges.  Base development should have no problem in editing code that uses the XNet drivers.  You will lose access to things like the Report Generation, Database Connectivity toolkit, and application builder in the base version.  Here is a page describing some of the other differences.
