cannot find network device

i have tried to connect the device using MAX. I know the IP address for this ethernet device but not the port #. i used '7' as given by default. it connects with but with yellow mark on it. In MAX, when i right click on this TCPIP device there is no 'communicate with device' option. when I click 'open visa test panel' following is the message:

Unable to open session to "TCPIP::192.168.1.104::7::SOCKET"

Return status code: 0xBFFF0011

Status name: VI_ERROR_RSRC_NFOUND

Insuffcient location information or the requested device or resource is not present in the system.

does this mean that this bruker device can only talk with the software provided by company, not anything else?

No, it means that the bruker is expecting it's communication on a specific port. You need to know what that port number is. You can't simply pick one out of the air and expect to connect to a server (which the bruker is since you clients connect to it).

Thanks. I could finally find the port number and now MAX connects to this field controller successfully. Thanks to all the contributors.
