custom palette and different directory names

we have a package that has vi's in it. the vi's are being installed under instr.lib. i have edited the palette with different text and custom icons. this has created dir.mnu files. we distribute these files. things are good.

problem is, we use the version number in the directory name in the path. so for the next version, the path name will be a little different and the icons/buttons on the palette get whacked. only work around i know is to recreate the dir.mnu files.

any ideas?

My question is why you think you should be including the version number in the folder name? This is not something I have ever see with any of the NI instrument drivers and not a technique I've used either. When I've had different versions, I used source code control to manage them and kept the folder names the same.

You could try to 'stamp' the mnu file. I didn't try, but there is some plain text inside that file in 7.1 and maybe it's even xml in 2009. It's dirty and cheap solution.

a solution i proposed to them is to create a folder under the folder with the version name. i don't forsee this folder and the sub-folder names changing. the only drawback i see is that there is one more layer you have to drill down in the palette. i created a submenu from this folder down. it seems to be ok if i change the parent folder name.
