display in-active monitor window

I have an existing program that needs expanding and was asked to add some position graphs to the front panel.

The problem is that I have a 2 monitor system and the front panel is full.

I would like to add a button to launch a new window with the position graphs and actively update the graphs, but I can't access the main front panel with the position graph window open. Is there an option to open a new window but still have control of the main front panel?

Thanks

Hello Carl,

I believe the option you're looking for is the modal flag, as described in this KnowledgeBase:

How Can I Change the Modality of My Front Panel?

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/3DEBEF4F6E716BAC86257085006087BD?OpenDocument

Ensure that that isn't selected in your SubVI, and you should be able to interact with both windows.

Have you considered using tab controls or subpanels to condense your front panel?  If your front panel spans two monitors and it's "full", you may want to consider a UI redesign.  Does everything on this front panel need to be accessable all the time?

Regards,

I've already been there and it didn't resolve the issue.

I would love to re-design the GUI, problems are:

-We are capturing data AND video at the same time and need to see what we are doing

-Warnings and co-ordinates are display on the front panel

- Motor control is also controlled from the front panel with variable current control drivers

There was the option of adding another monitor but the customer is not happy with that option. If I can't find a software option then I might have to pull strings to make it work.

We need to open temporary window and still have control on the main panel for our motors and indicators

LabWindows/CVI has an attribute option for it, but haven't been able to find it in Labview

What do you mean by "no control"?

How do you launch/load the "monitor vi" ?
