I am using the digilent Spartan E board and having communication errors. I followed the installation instructions "getting started" posted here https://lumen.ni.com/nicif/us/infolvfpgaxilsprtn/content.xhtml.. I have disabled all virus protection and make sure the Spartan E is not connected during install. I have labview 2010, Xilinx 10.1, Xilinx 11.5, Compile Farm and the Spartan E driver. Whither I make my own project or I use a NI example (ie shift.lvproj*) I get the following error:
Labview FPGA called another software component, and that component returened the following error:
Error Code:-310601
Ni-Cobs; unable to detect communication cable.
Please verify that the communication cable is plugged securely into your computer and target. Also verify that the appropriate drivers are installed.
I have the Xilinx usb cable driver 2.0.0.1. The driver file details is as follows:
File version 10.11 bulit by : winddk
Coprywright: Jungo confidential. copyright (c_ 2010 Jungo Ltd.
Digtal Signer: Not digitally signed
I have verified that the driver is up to date and verified that the Spartan-3e can communicate with Impact (xilinx toolset for download of bit files).
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Labview 2010, Xilinx 10.1, Xilinx 11.5, Compile Farm and the Spartan E drive to no avail. I have done everything humanly possible. I have been stuck on this error for days and cannot figure it out. Please help me....

By the way my os is windows 7 professional. I have spent all night installing labview and all the fpga stuff on a windows virtual machine to no avail. So two computer with windows 7 and 1 with XP and no luck. I have also seen ensured that my xilinx drivers are not the problem. I can go inside the Xilinx 11.5 impact software (that install with labview fpga) and see my spartan 3e with the 64 bit version but not the 32 bit version. My labview is 32 bit. I am not sure if labview is programming the spartan 3e with impact but it is an aditional peice of information.

It sounds like the issue is that your Windows 7 install is 64-bit, and due to an issue with the underlying Xilinx framework (iMPACT itself isn't used, but rather the same mechanism that iMPACT is using is being used from LV as well), 64-bit versions of Windows aren't currently supported.
The Windows XP issue (unless it likewise was the 64-bit, which NI doesn't officially support) is likely some other issue, you should verify that iMPACT works in terms of identifying components on the board

Please post the following:
Version of LV + FPGA + Spartan support:
Windows OS you are using (version AND bit-ness):
Hardware setup:
Check for presence or absence of the "Programming cables" subsection in Windows Device Manager:
Let me know

Hello,
I also have the same error message. My config is ;
Win7 Pro 32 bits
LV11 SP1
NI DE FPGA board with Spartan XC3S500E
For reminder the error message is when I try to run on the FPGA target :
Error Code: -310601
NI-COBS: Unable to detect communication cable.
Please verify that the communication cable is plugged securely into your computer and target. Also verify that the appropriate drivers are installed
I've installed more drivers than I could possibly count to no avail. Have you got any idea ?

That was actually the driver I was missing:
(cd box was empty)

The drivers are supposed to be installed during the overall LV 2011sp1 support installation, was there anything unusual about when you installed the LV support? Did you have the board plugged in at the time of installation?

I think I had the board plugged in. Is that why it went wrong ? But when I installed LV, I had to do a separate install of the FPGA software afterwards, which surprised me much.

As noted in the readme file, if you have the board plugged in the driver may not install properly. The installation procedure is supported to be (with the board unplugged)
LV 2011sp1
LV FPGA 2011sp1
Xilinx 12.4 tools (optional if you use a remote compile server)
DEFB LV FPGA 2011sp1 support installer
