io instrument assistant fails

Hi,

Started a new vi and added the IO Instrument assistant.  Then I selected a com port (COM10) and validated it. Using the VISA test pane, I can write a command and then read the buffer fine. After closing the pane, I added a step "Query & parse". WindowsNi Motion Assistant tries to install/configure itself. Then  I enter a command and hit run and Windows tries to configure Motion Assistant again. Then I click "Auto sparse" and it does it again. After a few seconds Windows closes labview. Checking the application event viewer I get the following: Event ID 1000

Faulting application labview.exe, version 8.5.0.4002, faulting module iioa.mxw, version 4.3.0.38, fault address 0x00060bb9.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

AND Event ID 1004

Detection of product '{A938E7B2-6A19-43A6-B7C5-A7EE634C5A72}', feature 'MotionAssistant.NMC.MA200', component '{94DAF805-4B22-4F46-A815-12F17FE901B4}' failed.  The resource 'G:\' does not exist.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

G: is the DVD/CD drive.

This was reproduced several times.

Thanks for your help

Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm a bit confused about what you are doing--are you trying to run the Instrument I/O Assistant, or the Motion Assistant, or both?  Also, are you trying to run these from LabVIEW, or from the programs themselves?  What versions of NI-Motion and LabVIEW do you have?

Please provide me with a few more details and I'll be glad to help.

Cheers,

I am just trying to run the IO Assistant. I do not understand why the Motion Assistant is trying to load.

THe versions are in the original message also

Faulting application labview.exe, version 8.5.0.4002, faulting module iioa.mxw, version 4.3.0.38, fault address 0x00060bb9.

Maybe I have a bad copy of the io assistant - will look into it.

Hi Tom,

Marti stepped out today but I'm happy to help. If you open up LabVIEW and select Help»About LabVIEW, what version do you see in the bottom-right corner of that window? I'm assuming 8.5.0, but I want to double-check.

Can you try a different port? Is COM 10 the only port you can test this on?

I think Marti was just double-checking on your original post: "WindowsNi Motion Assistant tries to install/configure itself" It sort of looks like you're about to write something about Windows... Was there additional information there that you can provide?

Also, let's open up NI-SPY. You can get there from Start»Programs»National Instruments. From there, you can click Spy»Options and select the Error Action tab to choose if you want to the Spy log to stop capturing if an error occurs. That will help if a lot of commands are being sent. Go ahead and post up the .SPY file if you get any data in there.

Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks Tom.
