niDigital programmes not cleaning up properly

I'm using an example function in LabView to test for digital continuity

The function works as fine, but all VIs following will fail

Also Digital Pattern Editor will not open (so I cannot see the state of all the pins)

The resource listed is one of the resources used in the test

I believe the cleanup is causing the problem as the instrument resource is not being released

Does anyone have their own cleanup visual code that can properly disconnect the resources or have encountered this problem before?
