option to continue with empty file path without saving

Hallo Steffi,

you wrote:
"another problem: If I do want to save data and enter a file path the data is saved, but the button says that data isn't saved. This is confusing for the user and as I don't use it by my own..."

This is confusing for me too! How can the data be saved when the button is set to "don't save"? In this case the saving functions aren't executed!

"have to click cancel twice":
You have to functions for saving data. When you don't provide a filename for saving both will ask for one... So you have to cancel two dialogs.

ok, thank you. I will do that.
But could you give me a quick hint what the connector pane is? Where can I find it? I created the error cluster, but where should I connect it?
Sorry.

Thanks.

Hi Steffi,

did you find the link a gave in a previous message an online courses for LabView?

Ok connector pane: This is the way to send values to/receive from subvis. Right-click the vi icon, select "show connector". Right-click again & select "patterns" to get a list of all possible panes... Left-click one element of the connector pane and then click the corresponding control/indicator to set a connection. Maybe you just try this with your changed "write to text" vi as you should have some predefined connections to play with...
Best regards,
GerdW

Yes, I found the link. Thank you very much. I didn't know that NI offers such courses. That's really great! I will do them as soon as I find some time!

Which vi do you mean for the right click? I right clicked the "write to text.vi" and I right clicked the general error handler and the error cluster, but I don't find the show connector pane... Or ist there another word for it?

Thank you.

Hi Steffi,

right-click the icon of the vi in the upper-right corner of the front panel!

Don't take this as an offense, but wouldn't it be better to first take these courses and then try to program using LabView?
