really stupid question-needs stupid answer

When I open LabVIEW, and I choose the Open... drop-down menu, I only get the filenames. What do I have to configure to make it show the entire path? Thank you for your time.

Try Tools>>Options..>>Miscellaneous and check "Use native file dialogs."

This works on the Mac. I am not sure what it does on other OSes.

I'm not sure about this, but this seems to happen if all the files in the list are in the same directory.

If you have the entire list with just filenames, try opening up a VI in say the vi.lib directory. Then close everything and look at the list again.

If this is what is happening, I've not found any option to force it to display the entire path all time. Maybe some undocumented ini setting NI is willing to release?

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.

I just tried this (should have done that before posting) and it looks like this is not what happens. What did trigger it to display the path was to open two VIs that have the same name (a user.lib VI from 7.1, then 7.0). Even then, it doesn't show the whole path if it's too long. You get something like C:\...lib\Numeric\Round Fractinal Number.vi

Thanks anyway but either situation did not work. I have to machines that have LabVIEW and only one of them do this. I still havent found any difference.

Hi PD,

If I was in your situation, I would probably try repairing LabVIEW. Most of the time this gets rid of those "quirks." Give this a try and let me know if this changes anything. Also, what version of LabVIEW do you have?
