runtime error when adding a softmotion axis

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi All,

I'm running labVIEW 2010 with the softMotion development module, creating a compactRIO application. When trying to add a softMotion axis in the project explorer I get a pop-up with the message "Microsoft Visual c++ runtime library. Run time error! Program: ...Labview.exe" and labVIEW terminates.

I get the same same message when trying to look at coordinate spaces defined in softMotion examples, or trying to add coordinate spaces or softMotion tables.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get around this?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Have you ever been able to add an axis with SoftMotion? If so, did you receive any errors before this?

Hi Mychal,

This is the first time I have tried in labVIEW 2010. I previously had 2011 running and managed to add an axis, but installed 2010 because I wanted to use the trajectory generator engine. I have completely uninstalled 2011 products, so I don't think the two versions should be interfering with eachother.

Hi Matt,

What version of SoftMotion do you have? It sounds like it may be a compatibility issue between SoftMotion and your LabVIEW version. Thanks!

Thanks again Mychal.

I'm running SoftMotion Module 2010 f1.

Hi Matt,

You are running LabVIEW 2010 SP1 correct? If so, did you install SoftMotion after installing LabVIEW or before? If you installed SoftMotion before LabVIEW, please uninstall and reinstall the SoftMotion Module. Thanks!

I have reinstalled SoftMotion, but my problem persists. One thing I can think of is that I am using the latest device drivers. Is this likely to cause any issue?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt,

What drivers (and versions) do you have? From the SoftMotion 2010 SP1 Readme, the module should be compatible with the following:

  • LabVIEW 2010 SP1
  • LabVIEW 2010 SP1 Real-Time Module
  • LabVIEW 2010 SP1 FPGA Module
  • NI-RIO 3.6.0 or later
  • NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT® 2.1 or later

Are these versions (or newer) what you currently have? Thanks!

Ah thanks Mychal,

I'm running 2010 f2. Do I need to upgrade to SP1?

Thanks,

Matt

Further to my last post, in reading the SoftMotion 2010 f1 readme, it says I require the following

  • LabVIEW 2010
  • LabVIEW 2010 Real-Time Module
  • LabVIEW 2010 FPGA Module
  • NI-RIO 3.5.0 or later
  • NI-Industrial Communications for EtherCAT® 2.0 or later

I have these modules, except I have NI-RIO 4.0 installed. When looking at the install dialogue for NI-RIO 4.0 it says it only supports 2010 SP1. I am downloading NI-RIO 3.5.1 as it has labVIEW  2010 support.

Thanks,

Matt
