Hello All,
I am the new user of the labview and i would like to do image processing project in labview. I have a labview version 8.5. As a first step i would like to interface logictech USB webcam in labview. I have downloaded the NI-IMAQ for USB camera from the NI site, but i am not able to install it. It shows a error message that says "vision 7.1 or higher are required with labview. Can anyone help me how can i interface USB webcam in labview without purchasing the any additional software.
Thank you

Hi,
You will get the error message because you dont have vision drivers installed in your system. Just install LabVIEW 8.6 which will install the latest vision driver [all the drivers are shipped with 8.6 as evaluation] to your system and use 8.5 for developing your application. That is how i did it

Hi masif!
Do you have Vision Development Module? In case you didn't notice, the page where you download the IMAQ for USB driver lists system requirements- also listed below:
- Windows Microsoft Windows Vista/Vista x64/XP/2000 (English, Italian, Japanese, French, Italian, Norwegian, Dutch, Spanish/Portuguese, Russian, or simple Chinese).
- LabVIEW 7.0 or later.
- Vision Development Module 7.1 or later
- NI Vision Acquisition Software 7.1 or later, for USB LabVIEW support.
- Vision Assistant 7.1 or later, for USB Vision Assistant plug-in module support.
- Vision Assistant 8.0 or later, for USB Express VI support.
You don't need to upgrade LabVIEW, but you will need VDM and Vision Acquisition Software (which is a bundle of IMAQ, IMAQdx, and IMAQ I/O drivers)
I hope this helps!

Dear All
Thanks for your replys. I want to use the Labview for the designing of real time image processing application. I have download the free webcam labview VIs (Webcam 1.4) from the web. However, the output video produced by the VIs is not correct. Have anyone used the USB webcam tool (webcam 1.4). Please help me.
Thanks

Hi masif,
Where did you download Webcam 1.4? How is the output video not correct? (screenshots?) The more details about your issue you provide, the easier it is to help. Thanks!

Hi All,
I have a similar issue. I have connected a Logitech USB webcam from which I would like to acquire images. However, when I use the Vision Acquisition Express VI, I am unable to select the acquisition source when the wizard prompts it, as under 'Acquistion sources for Localhost' the device is not detected. I only get Simulated Acquistion. However, when I launch Vision Assistant 8.6 on its own, and choose 'Acquire Image' -> Acquire Image (USB), the device is detected as a 'USB Video Device'.
How can I use the webcame together with the Vision Acquisition Express VI in LabVIEW? I am using the NI-IMAQ 4.1 with LabVIEW 7.1
Thank you.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your link. Do you know of anyway to use the Vision Assistant Express VI for this? I did install 'IMAQ for USB Cameras' driver, but it only gets recognised when I launch the Vision Assistant Software on its own; it does not get detected when I try to use the express VI in LabVIEW, when the wizard opens to select the acquisition source (as mentioned in my previous post). Can the driver not being supported by the NI corp be a possible reason?
Thanks,
Talini

The Vision Development Module ( VDM ) presents image processing functions for LabVIEW , C / C , Visual Basic, and . NET . VDM functions are used for image processing some of them are : pattern matching, particle analysis , edge detection , threshold , histograms and optical character recognition . Furthermore, VDM includes Vision Assistant and code generation tool similar to VBAI . Vision Assistant is a useful tool to develop and test a series of image processing steps and code generation .
Vision Builder for Automated Inspection ( VBAI ) is a standalone development environment that requires no programming . VBAI includes over 100 of the most used VDM tools , including : pattern matching , OCR , and particle analysis . VBAI can run programs on remote destinations , and also has the ability to configure the remote targets .
Vision Acquisition Software ( VAS ) is a set of drivers and utilities functions to acquire, display and save images from any camera NI GigE Vision camera , or IEEE 1394 (Firewire ) and USB . VAS is included in both VDM and VBAI .
You can perform image acquisition only drivers from VAS , but for any treatment or handling or VDM VBAI you need , plus VAS . You can download the evaluation software from the following links :
