Application Stops Working On Exit - Windows 10, CVI 2013

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I just moved from Win 7 to Win 10.  Now, every application I built under Win 7 or rebuilt under Win 10 "stops working" on exit.  I found a couple posts which were similar and posted to one, but got no replies.  As another user did, I did a return 0; immediately following main() and I get the same error.

My suspicion is Win 10 and cvirte.dll are not compatible.  But I honestly do not know.  I saw a similar reference to this in CVI 2015 that was reported by NI as a bug.  I don't know if it has been fixed.

Any solutions to this?

Thanks,

Dave

Accepted by topic author d.

Is this the same problem as reported in this thread? And does the workaround suggested there work? (deleting font files in some folders of the Run-time install)

If not, can you tell us which version of Win10 you are running?

Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

Roberto,

I can't tell you how impressed I am that you are a "Proven Zealot."  Wish I had that tag.

Curiously, I did see that post before and after reading through the first handful of posts decided it didn't apply to me.  But I read through it to the end tried deleting the font folders.  My applications now run and terminate properly.  Comments in that thread still indicate this is only a work-around.

This is weird though. Years ago (1990's?), you had to install the font directory or your application wouldn't run at all.  But for some reason (which I no longer remember), I had to stop installing the font directory with my applications for Windows 10.  Since I'm not doing it and my clients don't use CVI, I would assume I can continue to distribute install files without the font directory and they should not have any problems.  IOW, the work around is OK for me personally, and I probably won't have to worry about it for my clients.

Thanks for the pointer.

BTW, I'm a zealot too, but I won't get into why here.  🙂
