CVI 7.0 doesn't start

Hello,

I am under Windows XP.

I have installed CVI 7.0 using the different CDs.

All the installation has been done without any problem.

But after that, CVI doesn't start.
When double clicking on cvi.exe, or using the menu, nothing appends !!!

I have registered the application using the tool in shared directory.

But it was ineffective...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Philippe

Hi Philippe,

What does the task manager say ? Is there a process called cvi.exe when launching the exe ?

Where did you install CVI on the hard drive ?

Have you already tried a reinstall ? It looks like something's wrong about registry keys or something. You could also try it on another computer just to make sure it works.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric,

First thank you very much for trying to help me !!!

cvi.exe doesn't appear in the task manager.

First CVI was installed on D partition.
Then I have removed CVI, and I have also cleaned the registry.

Then I have re-installed it on C as proposed by installation.

But same result after that.

Yes the same software (same CDs) has been installed on another computer in the past (Windows XP also).

And Yes we will try again to install it on another PC.

It's very strange and I have really no idea how to find a solution.

Best Regards

Philippe

Start Microsoft's Process Monitor with a filter on cvi.exe before starting CVI. Check the trace for missing files or other errors.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice.

Using process monitor, I have now a listing of actions made by CVI (accesses to files, and registers).

I have put all this in an excel file attached to this email.

There are a lot of errors.

Some of these errors seem to be "normal".

But it is difficult for me to know which error has caused the exit.

The last errors before the exit seem to be linked with OLEAUT module.

But I have no idea how to correct this and if this will solve the problem.

May be someone could help me ?

Best Regards

Philippe

Unfortunately, the log did not reveal much about what is occurring. As you said, many of these errors are "Normal".

I don't think this is an error that is common to other users, so I want to work with you directly through email to resolve this. I sent you a private message through the forum with more information.

I worked with Phillipe offline on this issue. It turned out to be the Windows DEP setting that caused the failure to stop. This setting is not compatible with older versions of LabWindows/CVI. For more information about Microsoft DEP and how to disable it, visit http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc700810.aspx. Phillipe was actually able to add CVI as an exception for DEP.
