Hi Joe,

From an NI perspective, a majority of our Vista information can be found on the page National Instruments Product Compatibility for Microsoft Windows Vista. This page lists out driver, software, toolkit, etc information regarding Vista.

A few side CVI specific notes I can add are:

  • CVI 8.1.1 was our first release that supported Vista.
  • All of our known issues are documentated in the CVI Readme
  • Using older versions of CVI (8.1 and earlier) on Vista isn't supported and we don't claim compatibility. However, with that said, we did do some basic testing to see what worked. The majority of areas that didn't work involved Vista's UAC so if you turn that off, older versions of CVI will work slightly better. Even with UAC turned off, there were a few issues that we hit. All in all, I would suggest using 8.1.1 and later to be safe.

Hope this helps some.

Best Regards,
