Uninstalling LabWindows/CVI breaks Dell laptop WiFi

My eval copy of LabWindows/CVI 9.0 stopped working when it said just yesterday that four days were remaining.  The icon is unresponsive, without any error message. I tried the repair option in the Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, but it didn't help. No problem, I thought, I will just re-install it.

The first setback was that the eval setup program would not apply any changes or repairs until I uninstalled LabWindows/CVI.  The problem is, every time I run the uninstall process through the Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs, for some reason it breaks my Dell laptop's WiFi. The WiFi light goes out, and the WLAN utility stalls out trying to activate it again.

I have gone back repeatedly to the Windows XP restore point, which reliably fixes the WiFi. I installed the recommended Dell D620 WLAN 1390 utility update, which sets up perfectly before uninstalling the eval, the but after that, uninstalling LabWindows/CVI not only breaks the WiFi, it prevents the WLAN 1390 utility update from completing, it ends with an unrecognized error code. The OS is fully updated, and so it the McAfee Security.

Is there an alternate way to repair or re-install LabWindows/CVI?  Deleting the directory didn't help, the LabWindows/CVI setup program still says it won't install any new files.

H Frankr,

Do you have any other NI Products?  If not (or if you don't mind reinstalling them), a program which removes all NI software (MSIblast) may be able to fix the problem.  The file is linked here. If removing all NI software is not an option, try opening regedit (start»run»regedit, and searching for all entries containing CVI and deleting them.  Once you do this, try deleting the current directory as you are trying now and reinstalling the software.  If modifying the registry causes any problems, you can always restore it using system restore.  Hope this helps!
