Hi I'm a student currently working on building an automated inspection using the ISC1783(Win IoT) as part of my current term paper.
I manged to set up the camera yesterday and get a live feed out of it, but the only thing you can see is a "zoomed in", out of focus picture. I tried looking for settings and the only thing i did find was a "raw focal point"-seeting which couldnt be changed. Have i missed a step setting this thing up? Do i have to get a seperate Lense? Please help.

First thing to check is to see if you have the right lens mount.
The "Standard" C mount comes in two flavors - C and CS. CS are more compact, and are popular in the security industry. Zoom lenses are not commonly used in machine vision, and are also CS. The difference is a 5mm offset in the back focal length, and a 5mm spacer is usually the answer. You can test this by unscrewing the lens about 5mm (which means you will just have to hold it in your hand), and see if it focuses.
If that is not the answer, you may have a defective lens.
Another possibility is a defective camera. I had an NI smart camera (back when they were first introduced) and the sensor was simply in the wrong place.. It was most annoying.
I get mine from Ebay - Search "5mm extension c mount". I can drop one in the mail if that would be helpful.
Also, check out the Machine Vision Show Boston, coming up in October.
Good luck!
Robert
But my $$ is on the 5mm extension tube to correct from CS to C.
