Labview with NI DAQ USB 6009

Newbie question - Do you have to purchase labview exclusively to start using the USB 6009 DAQ or do you get a basic version of labview to get started?

I don't understand. You are not required to use LabVIEW with the device. The device comes with a driver that can be used with a variety of programming languages. If you are a student, you can get a student version of LabVIEW. You might also want to consider SignalExpress. I don't know if the free version is packaged with the device.

Thanks. I didn't know the USB 6009 came with free signalexpress.

Do you know if I can configrue the USB 6009 as a counter using signal express?

The device only has a simple event counter and it should be useable but I use LabVIEW and not SignalExpress so I can't definitely say.
