NI USB-6212 is not detected on the USB bus.

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

We are using an NI USB-6212. We had it installed and working properly on a testing system.

Now, it is not working and this are the symptoms:

- When connected to the USB bus the led next to the connector does not lit.

- MAX software does not detect the board.

Please, advice me about steps to follow to check the board or eventually send it to repair.

Thanks in advance,

Diego.

Hey Diego,

Sorry you are having trouble. Let's get some initial debugging steps underway...

When you plug the device in, do you see anything change in the Windows Device Manager?

Does the device show up as "Unknown" or as a "Data Acquisition Device"?

What version of NI-DAQmx did you install on this machine?

Just so you know, only after the device has been recognized as belonging to NI-DAQmx does it blink the LED on the device. Not blinking is probably due to it not being recognized by the driver correctly.

Are you plugged directly to your computer? (Did you add a USB hub recently?)

Just a few things to help us debug what's going on with your setup...

Hi gaving,

Thank you for your prompt response!

When plugged, the board shows up as Data Acquisition Devices\USB Firmware Loader in the Windows Device Manager.

We are using NI-DAQmx, version 8.9.5.

The device is plugged directly to the computer.

I have checked the board in another computer and it worked properly, so there is no hardware problem. The problem seems to be in my computer.

I have tried reparing the NI-DAQmx installation, with no results.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the NI-DAQmx driver, with no results.

Please let me know if you need further information.

Thanks in advance,

Diego.

Hi gaving,

Following the phrase "USB Firmware Loader" as a clue, I found the following link, related to my problem:

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/2E02F8EC5D0197928625758C005FFD8D

I had in my computer the "USB Firmware Loader" service stopped, so it was "unable to load the information from the firmware". Once started, it worked fine.

Thanks,

Diego.

Hi Gaving,

Just in case if there were nothing being shown up at device manager, can we conclude that it is a hardware issue?

Look forward to hear from you. Thanks.
