NI-USB X-Series with BNC connectors and differential instrument configuration

Solved!
Go to solution

The NI-USB boxes with BNC connectors always have half the connectors as their screw terminal connectivity version. In case of the screw terminal connectivity version for measuring differential, one has to connect the singal to two Analog Input Channles. Is this still the case for the BNC version or is this already done in the box.

Hence if I want to measure in differential mode is it true that:

16 channels  screw terminal connectivity --> 8 channels differential

 8 channels BNC -> 8 channels differential

Hi totallyConfused,

its exactly how you described it. Since the BNC Cable consists of two wires, they use the AI+ and AI- Channel for differential Input. However, you still can measue in RSE mode. On the BNC Devices also is a Switch where you can change the input circuit from floating to grounded source:

Hope it helps, best,

Would the outer BNC connection bring in noise to the measurement since it blocks the inner connection?

And why does the manual not explain the connection differences between the screw terminal and the BNC?

I am just a little confused as well as I understand the intuitive side of the connection, but I'm also stumped by the noise consideration.
