Solved!

Hi Seth thanks for your response. I only see the backplane (all the modules are plugged in).

Just to check, if you remove a module from the chassis and plug it back in, the new hardware wizard does not come up, correct?

Also, is the chassis plugged directly into the computer, or are there any hubs, extenders, or switches in use?  And we aren't doing any kind of virtualization, like VMWare, correct?

If I remove a module and plug it back in nothing happens (no new hardware wizard). The usb cable is plugged directly into the computer and I'm NOT using VMware (I would have no problem blasting on a fresh copy of Windows if that was the case). I have since installed the software on another XP machine and the hardware worked without a glitch. It appears that my problems may be related to Vista.

I just noticed I'm getting an NI error at boot. Checking online for a solution doesn't appear to do anything.

Thanks for the additional information.  I'm still looking in to this issue to determine possible further troubleshooting steps.

This is certainly a strange issue, you have our developers a bit stumped.  In an effort to un-stump them, there is some more information that I'd like to get.  I apologize for all the back and forth we've needed.

Here's what we need:

  1. Are you perchance using a USB 3.0 host controller?
  2. Could we get a Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) Technical Report? (Open MAX, select File » Create Report » Technical Support).  This will create a ZIP file that has a bunch of system information that may help with troubleshooting.
  3. Could we get a view of the chassis in Device Manager sorted by connect?  To do this, open Device Manager and select View » Devices By Connection.  Then you'll need to drill down until you find the chassis.  Typically, it goes PC » Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System » PCI Bus » USB Enhanced Host Controller

A screenshot of my Device Manager windows sorted by connection is attached below for reference:

found the solution? I have same problem, I can see the chassis but not the modules on Device Manager windows. On MAX happens the same.

Hi mdelsol,

Have you attempted the solutions posted earlier in the thread? I would recommend trying to clear a possible MAX database corruption. The steps for doing this are outlined in this article. I hope this helps!

Hi, we tried everything posted on this thread and others. We think that problem is on windows because it doesn’t recognize the modules on Device Manager. We expend around two days uninstalling and installing again different NI drivers and programs, repairing MAX database, etc... and nothing. Only way we solved the problem was installing windows again keeping programs and users configurations. So I strongly recommend everybody having same problem to reinstall windows as will save a lot of time to finally do so.

Marc.

I'm having the same problem. I even added a simulated cDAQ-9174 in MAX, but if I try to add modules to it, it hangs, and self-tests throw an error. I tried everything in this thread, and I'm down to just formatting the machine now. This is not an acceptable solution.

A MAX technical report is attached.

Thanks,

-Mark
