I suffered the same problem, MAX discontinued to recognize my PXI cards, after upgrading java to 1.6.0_32, as requested by our local IT.
As a consequence, NI-mDNS Responder did not start automatically or stopped. And in turn nidevldu was not started.
Setting properties of Service->Recovery to "Restart the service" for 1st, 2nd and subsequent failures did not help either.
All investigations to trace down the problem cost me nearly a working day, until I discovered this discussion thread.
The offered zip Package with NI mDNS Responder 2.1.0 did it !
Now NI services start automatically upon boot as expected (although properties are reset to "Take no Action" on failures)
Could NI give us some more detail, on what went wrong and what is fixed now please ?

just to clarify:
filename of zip file offered inthis thread for download by Justin E. indicated version 2.1.4,
however installer confirmed „NI mDNS Responder 2.1.0 has been successfully installed“
Guess, that the not yet released version 2.1.4 of mDNS Responder was packed, using the previous installer.

I'm having the same problems as everyone else. I can't even get mDNS responder to start manually. Currently uninstalling everything and going to give it another go.
Justin, could I get that file for NI mDNS Responder 2.1.0? Thanks

Hi CHersh,
This is Marcus from Application Engineering. What errors are you seeing?

Hi Marcus,
The reinstall took care of the problem, so I had the oppertunity to mess around with signalexpress today. Maybe you can help me with a differnt problem I'm having (email is cjh5293@psu.edu if you don't want to go OT). I want to take a voltage data point every 10 minutes or so for a few days. I think I got it to work (had to change timeout to -1), but now when I stop the log it hangs in 'stopping' mode. I found this article that I hoped would fix it, but it turns out that I already had that option set to 'no' (and I already was using the save to ASCII step) . So now I'm stuck again.
Thanks,
Chris

I also post this here to prevent people from having to search all over the Forum for this file due to cleaned up and therefore invalid FTP Links.
rename C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\mDNS Responder\nimdnsResponder.exe to nimdnsResponder.bak, and place this new executable there. Restart the system and see if the service starts up or if they continue to get errors.
This is a File we do not take Responisibility for since it is not officially distributed. Please see it as a help-your-self workaround until the final fixed Version is beeing released.

The zip has been removed from the above post. If you need this patch, feel free to post to request it and we can send a copy. However, since the software hasn't been released yet, it will only be sent out by request rather then available for public download. This process will allow for a better depiction of how often the patch is required.
Kind Regards,
