PCI-6110 does not show up in MAX

I've just installed NI-DAQmx 9.11 under Windows 7 64-bit and then installed the PCI-6110 board. Windows 7 seems to recognize the board just fine and install the drivers. If I look in Device Manager the board shows up under Data Acquisition devices. However, when I open up MAX the device does not show up there. I've pressed F5 to refresh but the board still does not show up. The only things that show up under Devices and Interfaces are Network Devices and PXI. I've completely uninstalled, removed board, and reinstalled with the same results so I'm at a loss as to how to get MAX to recognize this device. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, ~Ed

Hi SRLancer,

We have recently discovered a software bug that was introduced in DAQmx 9.1 that can cause the MAX Database to become unusable by DAQmx, resulting in devices not showing up in MAX.  This issue occurs when certain Human Interface Devices (HIDs) are connected when the machine boots.  Among the HIDs that can cause this issue are certain models of HP keyboards or mice.  Once your MAX Database is in this state, removing the HID device will not correct the issue.  Affected driver versions are 9.1.0, 9.1.1, 9.1.5, 9.1.6, 9.2.0, 9.2.1.

An official fix should be released by next week.  If you need more immediate help getting up and running, please let me know.  I will need your permission to have our forum staff look up your contact information.

There are other possibilities for a device not showing up in MAX, but at this time I think this would be the most likely explanation given your description of the problem.  What USB peripherals do you have connected to your computer?

I do apologize for any inconvenience, I'll post back to this thread with a link to the official fix once it has been released.

Best Regards,

Hi John, Thanks for the reply. The only USB devices I've had installed are a Mac mouse and a Dell keyboard. Here's hoping that the official fix comes out soon. In the mean time, do you think I can get it working by uninstalling the drivers and NI-DAQmx, switching to a PS/2 type keyboard and mouse and then reinstall? Thanks again, ~Ed

The Apple mouse is likely the culprit, as we've identified several Apple mice as causing the issues.  If you can use a different mouse until the official fix is released, you can correct the issue by doing the following:

  1. Unplug the Apple mouse and plug in a different mouse (Dell is a good bet)
  2. Run the steps from KB 4GA9TOQA: What is the Process For Removing MAX Database Corruption?
  3. Restart your computer

Once you've done this, you should be up and running.  Note that if you plug the Apple mouse back in, you'll be back at square one and will need to repeat the above process.  I'll post back to this forum when we have an official fix released.

Your suggestion worked great.  All cards now recognized in MAX.  Thanks again for your help.

To follow up on this forum, we have identified this as a known issue with versions of NI-DAQmx from 9.1 through 9.2.1.  We have released patches for these versions that we are making available today at the KnowledgeBase article linked below and through NI Update Service.  The issue will be corrected in NI-DAQmx 9.2.2 and later. We will also be releasing an NI-DAQmx 9.1.7 that includes the fix for those who would like to minimize upgrade risk from version 9.1.x.
