Solved!
Go to solution

Hello, I have trouble with launching Virtual Instrument that use NI ELVIS - problem in that the program miss to find "NI ELVIS DIO - close.vi", "NI ELVIS DIO - write.vi", "NI ELVIS - initialize.vi" - Please, say - where can I get listed VI? And the 2nd problem is that in NI ELVIS instruments (DMM for example) - in field "Device" only empty string is avaliable. So, measuring with this instruments is unavaileble. How can I fix that fail and specified in this field ELVIS I have?

Hello,

Thank you for posting to the NI Forums! I have a couple of questions along with some suggestions.

First, which ELVIS do you have? Is it the NI ELVIS I, NI ELVIS II, or NI ELVIS II+ ? Also, which version of the ELVIS driver do you have installed?

If you are using NI ELVIS I, what DAQ card are you using in your computer?

As far as the ELVIS not being selectable when you use a DMM for instance, please verify that the switch on the back of the ELVIS platform is turned on and you see the power lights on the ELVIS lit up. Also, if you are using ELVIS I, then you will need to click the "Configure" button on the instrument launcher and configure your DAQ card before you can use and instrument.

Please let me know the answers to these questions and we'll go from there. Have a great day!

Thanks for paying attention to my trouble, Margaret.

1. I use NI ELVIS I in couple with NI DAQ 6251 car

2. I use the v4.10  NI ELVIS with v8.9 NI DAQ software

3. Switch on back is turn on 🙂 and power light on ELVIS lights brightly.

So, I use NI ELVIS software for ELVIS II, but I suggest that this software also suit for NI ELVIS I. And I don`t see difference between specifeing device name in configire menu in software for NI ELVIS I and selecting the device in field "device" in the instrument menu. Is this good idea to install software for NI ELVIS I (oldest version)?

By the way, when I use NI DAQ in LabVIEW like a simple virtual instrument couple of NI DAQ and NI ELVIS works correctly, and trouble appear only when I try to use instruments from v4.10 NI ELVIS software...

And also - how and/or where can I get "NI ELVIS DIO - close.vi", "NI ELVIS DIO - write.vi", "NI ELVIS - initialize.vi" for LabVIEW?

Hello,

You cannot use the software intended for the NI ELVIS II with the NI ELVIS I. You will need to remove that from your computer through Add/Remove Programs and then install the latest version of the NI-ELVIS driver version 3.0.3 (not NI-ELVISmx).

When you install the correct driver and launch the Instrument Launcher, you will first need click the "Configure" button and establish communication between the DAQ card and the ELVIS.

As far as a close.vi, write.vi, initialize.vi, etc., these are not specific to ELVIS but are part of the DAQmx driver. You can use any DAQmx vi's with the ELVIS hardware. When you get the correct driver installed, you can go to the Measurement I/O Pallette and use the DAQmx vi's to do acquisition as well as the ELVIS vi's that install with the Traditional ELVIS Driver.

Hope this helps!

any luck with those VIs? I am having similar problem with missing VIs to run the NI Elvis from LabView 2009.

I have version 8.9.5 of DAQmx installed,  my DAQ card is the PCI6251 like yours. I have installed the traditional NIELVIS software 3.03.

The harware is recognized and working fine. But I am missing Transfer Function (DBL).vi  in order to interact with the Quanser DC motor prototype board from LabVIEW. Can you tell me if you have this particular VI?

I also have the Control Design and Simulation module installed,

thank you

Carlos

Hello,

Nowaday I miss for access to that system. It was my bachelour diploma..., and I couldn`t check this system on the your VI existance.

The system, than i used now has only 'transfer function PtByPt.vi'.

If you have any indeed to this VI - I can share it with you.

Thank you for your answer, I have already solved the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of PID control and Fuzzy Logic Toolkit,

Thank you,
