USB extension cable too much?

My original design called for a USB-6212 device connected to my network through a USB-to-Ethernet adapter (Lantronix ED4100).  That didn't work.  Now I have a USB extension cable all the way back to my PC that is 30 feet long.  That doesn't work either.  If I shorten it to 15 foot extension, the PC recognizes it and it is ready to use.  I checked the voltage at pins 42/43 with no extension and got 4.986V and with a 15 foot extension got 5.081V.  With the 30 foot extension, the 5V power never presents itself.  Any suggestions?  If you know how to make the USB-6212 work with the ED-4100 convertor, that would be the best solution.

Thanks.

Check out the "USB-anywhere" by Digi Corp. I have used it in harsh industrial environments with NI- USB DAQ units at distances exceeding 500 feet with excellent results.

Hi kc64,

We have not found a USB extender or hub that works 100% of the time for us to recommend. I included a link to another post where Andrew talks about our findings as of recently. It seems that an active extension cable would tend to work for most cases, though the USB-Ethernet extenders have given us problems due to reliability and throughput with some products.

Does NI offer USB extension solutions?
