I have a cDAQ-9188XT connected to a Windows 7 computer. I am running MAX 5.5. I told a screen shot of MAX. The Reserve Chassis and the self-test buttons are missing. Also the 9188XT has 3 modules installed that do not show up.
Why are they missing? I have a 2nd setup identical to this work that just worked.
Thanks,
Paul

Hey Paul-
You need to 'Add' the chassis before you can 'Reserve' (though this will happen implicitly if another system hadn't previously reserved it).

Tom,
I did add the device. I got to not reserve button after adding the device.

Ah, sorry for the confusion, Paul. You may need to refresh (F5) MAX or close and re-open it. Unfortunately the UI doesn't always keep up with the status of the device. If it doesn't work after that, you may have a deeper problem that needs more investigation.

Tom,
I have refreshed MAX, I have opened and closed it. I rebooted the computer and the cDAQ. Still not working.

Hey Paul-
Based on that, I'd say that the device either failed to Add correctly or that is is already Added (and possibly Reserved), but MAX just isn't showing that status for some reason.
Could you try programmatically Adding, Reserving, or Self Testing your device? If you're in LabVIEW, all of those entries are on the DAQmx palette (though the Add and Reserve ones are on the DAQmx Advanced>>DAQmx System Setup palette. If you're in some other environment, please mention that and I can point you to the relevant API entrypoints.
If those steps work, it likely means MAX is acting up for some reason. If they don't, please take a glance in Device Manager and look for a cDAQ-9188XT entry under Data Acqusition Devices. If it's not there, it likely means that the Add failed in the first place for some reason.

Tom,
I am using LabWindows.
The DAQmxAddNetworkDevice returns a -201401 error code.
The DAQmxReserveNetworkDevice, DAQmxUnreserveNetworkDevice, and DAQmxDeleteNetworkDevice all return -200220. This with the default device name that shows up in MAX.
The Device Manager does not show any DAQ devices.

I have tried 3 different computers and get the same results. On one computer I removed all NI software and reloaded it, still get the error.
I will request an RMA for this device.

Hey Paul-
Thanks for the continued legwork on your end. I'd be a little bit skeptical, to be honest, that there is a hardware problem if it shows up at all as discovered in MAX, but having it fail on multiple systems is definitely a bad sign. Do the other chassis work on each of those systems?
My only other suggestion would be to perform a factory reset (if you haven't already). This involves pressing and holding the reset button for >5 seconds while the chassis is already booted. The second LED should light, and then you can release. After that, if this chassis fails while others work, it would definitely seem as though something is amiss with that particular piece of hardware.

Tom,
Other systems work witht these computers. I have tried a factory default, no luck.
I am thinking about re-flashing the unit. I have tried to download the firmware from work and home. I get an error both times.
Can you attach the current firmware to an email or here so I can try?
