frequency measurement from digital input pulse

Hi friends

 I generate digital pulse from the counter output of PCI 6221 and connected to the digital input of usb 6525.

I want to measure the frequency of a particular digital input channel  from usb 6525 digital card.send me the possibilities

Actually i want to measure the frequency without counters is it possible?

You can sample the digital input with a samplerate higher than the the shortest pulse, detect and count the (pos or neg) slopes and calculate the time between the fist and last .....

Homework: What is the uncertaincy you get??
