NI Update Service - Offline Feeds

Solved!
Go to solution

I've just finishing setting up offline feeds for my local network. My users can all get 2021, 2023, Real-Time, etc, without the need for the internet. I have in my notes from months ago to install the NI Update Service Block package on all new machines to stop it from trying to find the internet.

But my question is this: Will the NI Update Service work with offline feeds? I wouldn't mind any "Check For Updates" like tasks if it will go to my local feed and see if it has an update. Then when there's a Labview patch, all my offline users will get a notification, just like they are online and can patch as desired. I think the programmer might have written it to just "Go to Feeds, see if there's an update" without any mind for what feeds really are, but I'm not sure. I had in my notes to disable the NIUS because it would make things like Package Manager take up to a minute to open as it was trying to get online first.

Update Service's integration with NI Package Manager is designed to notify systems about NI product and other non-hidden packages in registered feeds that are tagged as "critical". The tagging of a feed as critical is something that NI Package Manager does when registering feeds for installed software. We do not document this implementation and do not support customer defining critical feeds for their own registered feeds. Technically Update Service does not treat online or offline feeds differently.
