Deployment runtimes version update for Teststand and Labview

Hello everyone,

Newby here,

My client is using the 2017 Teststand Base Deployement Engine and Labview runtime and has asked me to make updates on the newer versions of Teststand and Labview (2024).

I have read that the Labview runtime is free but will there be an issue if 2 runtimes of different versions are installed on the same machine? Is there a way to disable a version via the NI Licence Manager?

Also, I have seen this document that says the update for the Base Deployement Engine is free

https://www.ni.com/en/shop/electronic-test-instrumentation/application-software-for-electronic-test-...

But this one https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA03q000000YNpjCAG&l=en-GB mentions that there isn't a need for updating for the Base Deployment Engine.

Also, I can't seem to find clear instructions as to how to do the update.

I am quite confused as to how to update those two runtimes/deployment licences to work with 2024 Labview and Teststand

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Thank you in advance

Hi,

the TestStand Base Deployment License has to be purchased, it is not free like the LV Runtime.

It is a perpetual license with free upgrades to newer versions.

Having several LV Runtimes on the same computer is no problem, they co-exist peacefully.

Yet it is recommended to not use a mix of versions for Code Modules from TestStand.

Hi!

Thank you for taking time to answer my question

As I was saying, there is already a Teststand Base Deployment Licence running that was purchased for version 2017. My question is about how to do the free upgrade on it as I can't seem to find clear steps/tutorials on it ^^

That's good to know ! The idea isn't to have both running at the same time, more of a concern that I might break everything during the update.

Is there a way to remove the previous version? I can't find the LV runtime in my windows apps to uninstall

Honestly, I am not completely sure  .... since there is no explicit instructions, I would install the required version using NIPM or alternatively download the offline installer and go for it.

Nevertheless... in case anything goes wrong, ask your customer for the license number of the installed version
