Apologies if this isn't the right forum location.
Essentially, I believe that I am dealing with some sort of hardware error, but I'm a novice, so the troubleshooting is slow and my intuition weak.
On NI Max, the 1073 chassis always self-tests successfully. The 5170R also always self-tests successfully, but the self-calibration sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Within an hour of just *waiting*, sometime fails or works.
When everything is working:
NI-Scope and LABVIEW work just fine too.
When the self-calibration is in "fail" mode:
NI-Scope provides "hardware failure has occured, Error code: -1074097134"
LabVIEW provides "Error 52018 occurred at nilnstr FIFO Register.... Hardware failure has occurred".
I had this hardware failure issue for a month straight and moved the 5170R from Slot 2 and 3 to immediate success. For a week everything was working, but now these hardware errors are returning, and very inconsistently at that. I thought this was an issue with the chassis as moving slots fixed the issue, but as the issue is returning, I feel mistaken. If it was the 5170R card, wouldn't the issues have carried over from when i swapped the slots? I don't have access to duplicate 5170R or 1073's, otherwise I would have tried replicating the error with proven-working equipment.
I attempted my best to follow the steps highlighted in:
https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/problem-in-configuration-part-of-pxie-5170r/td-p/3629955
More information on the error I am discussing (if helpful) can be found on an earlier post of mine:
Labview Error -52018 - NI Community
Also attempted to use DAQ Diagnostic Utility, but no device was found, so I have the sense I don't understand the software's use case.
NI Max 20.0
PXIe-1073 Firmware 1.0.0f0
5170R Last External Calibration 9/4/2015
LABVIEW 2020
NI-Scope 19.1.0 (build 19.1.0.49153)
Windows 10 Enterprise
1073 is detectable by Device Manager.

It sounds like a hardware issue with 5170R. Another chassis and computer will confirm if the issue is really 5170R, but since you do not have access to one, I recommend raising a support ticket with NI to troubleshoot or send it for repair.
