NI-PXIe-1085 power switch

Solved!
Go to solution

We have a NI-PXIe-1085 chassis. The power switch went bad. We took the chassis apart and saw the switch is mounted on a pcb board.

Can we get a replacement switch-pcb board?  If we can't get a new pcb, can we just replace the switch? If so, where can we get one?

Thanks for any info.

How are you sure that the power switch is "bad"?

Can you post pictures of the power switch? Is this the momentary switch with LED?

Yes it is bad. It is a momentary switch. NI-PXIe-1085 switch mounted on pcbNI-PXIe-1085 switch mounted on pcbwitch is not fully retracting.

There isn't any user service guide, typically NI would ask you to send it for repair or buy new.

If you're interested in repairing, easy option is to see if there are any part number on the switch and lookup through hole momentary switch in Digikey and pick one that matches in look, pinout and dimensions.

Hello,

I have a question about the power switch board for the PXIe 1085. Image is attached.

Is it possible to order the whole board.

thank you

No, I inquired about that.

NI wants you to fork out 6 or 7K for a new chassis.....thank you very much 😞

On the plus side, I found a workaround. There is a switch on the back of the chassis to turn on/off power. It is called "Inhibit Mode".  The switch is normally set to "default" and allows the front switch to power on/off the chassis (if the front switch is working). When you flip the switch to "manual", the chassis will power up if the A/C plug is plugged in.

To turn off power in Manual mode, I would shut down Windows first and then slide the Inhibit mode back to default or remove the A/C plug.

If you're up for it, you can try a quick reverse engineering on what the board attempts to do and see if any of the easy to replace components are damaged.
