Good Morning,
I have a PXI 1031 Chassis that is no longer functioning and have purchased a replacement chassis. I am looking to swap the controller card (PXI-8840) and subsequent modules into the new chassis when it arrives. I am not the original engineer behind this test set up and have little documentation as to the details of the software loaded/module configurations on the controller card. Therefore, am looking to do as little with the software side of the Chassis/Modules as possible here...
Will I be able to simply install the new modules into the working chassis (Plug and chug so to speak) and just continue with normal operations or will I have to reinitialize or configure something related to the new chassis before I can have things back up and running.
Thanks,
-Jerome

Yes, the chassis is just like your USB hub, just replace and plug then into the correct port, may be a few changes to NI MAX to rename the instruments.
Important - ensure your new chassis is "PXI" and not the "e" variant

Sounds good. Thanks for the quick reply. I believe both the PC and the Controller Card have NI max loaded on it and can talk to each other. Does it matter which device I make the name changes on? Will the naming conventions be pushed to all devices on the back plane when the change is made or will I have to make it in multiple places.
I apologize if these are trivial questions, I'm new to the NI chassis world...

The chassis doesn't store the names. The 8840 controller (computer) stores the details of devices discovered over the PXI bus available on the chassis.
In layman's terms, the chassis is a giant hub (like the one you get for USB) where the controller and PXI cards connect to, and the PXI chassis establishes the connection for everyone to talk to each other.
I guess on NI MAX of 8840, you need to re-assign the names for each slot, as the change in chassis SN would tell NI MAX to think of it as a new one and not a replacement.
