PXIe-1075 chassis powers off spontaneously

I have currently use multiple PXIe-1073 chassis and PCIe-8360 MXI adapters throughout my lab.  I recently added a PXIe-1075 chassis with PXIe-8370 remote controller to allow use of additional PXIe payload cards.

I tried two different brand PCs (each running Win10 x64) and two different MXI host adapters (PCIe-8371, PCIe-8372) within each PC. I followed the instructions within the NI documentation precisely, and even installed the NI MXI-Express BIOS Compatibility software on both PCs in an effort to establish communications with the remote adapter (PXIe-8370) and chassis (PXIe-1075).

First the chassis was powered, then the PC was booted. Initially, the PCIe-8371 adapter links to the PXIe-8370 controller - numerous LEDs on the remote adapter are illuminated indicating successful connection. Shortly after Windows finishes booting, the chassis powers off and the PWR led on the 8370 flashes continuously. All other LEDs on the 8370 turn off. The chassis is not visible in NI MAX. It is not a typical failure, but it seems either the power supply in the chassis is marginal or the 8370 is defective. I don't have enough equipment to refine this diagnosis.

I would appreciate any speculation on the cause as well as possible solutions to this failure.

jhenderson0107,

You're likely seeing a problem with old firmware on the PXIe-8370.  Is this an older card?

Hopefully you have a chassis where you can boot with the PXIe-8370.  If so, download the firmware and use Measurement & Automation Explorer to install it:
https://www.ni.com/download/ni-pxie-8370-firmware-2012.07.10.10/3685/en/

Don't use the 1075 for the update.  If it powers off during the update the 8370 won't work and isn't recoverable.

Robert_R -

Thank you for responding.  Unfortunately, the only other chassis I have is a PXIe-1073, which contains an integrated MXI controller and thus is incompatible with the PXIe-8370.  I don't have another chassis which can host the 8370 to test your suggestion.  I will attempt to exchange the PXIe-8370 and retest with my existing PXIe-1075 chassis asap.
