Problems with PXI cards using Thunderbolt interface

I purchased a PXIe-1071 Chassis and PXIe-8301 Thunderbolt interface card in order to interface my laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Extreme 2nd Gen, with 2 Thunderbolt ports) with some NI PXI cards (PXIe-5652 signal generator and PXIe-2543 rf multiplexer). 

I have NI PXI Platform Services, NI-RFSG, and NI-SWITCH installed in my laptop.

I have tested the cards in a Keysight chassis with an embedded controller and they work fine. However, when I install them in the 1071, both the visibility of the chassis and the 8301 card change within MAX, and I get errors when attempting to connect to both cards. I have uninstalled all NI software and reinstalled several times, and I have tried every possible combination of restarting both my laptop and the chassis, and connecting the thunderbolt cable. The NI video showing the card/chassis combo being plugged into a laptop looks so simple, but that is not at all what happens. Instead I see a mess in NI Max (attached) and cannot communicate with the cards.

Status Code: -50152
A hardware failure has occurred. The operation could not be completed as specified.

Additionally I am unable to open a technical support request for some reason. I would like some support with this or I will be requesting a return, since both the chassis and card are essentially worthless in their current state.

We're going to have someone create a technical support ticket for you.

Meanwhile, may I ask that you look in Device Manager (once everything is connected and powered) and see if you find any devices listed with a yellow bang?

And just to be sure, have you tried cold booting the laptop with Thunderbolt cable connected and the chassis already powered?

Thank you Nick,

I just turned off the chassis and my laptop, turned the chassis on, and let the LEDs stabilize, and then turned on the laptop. The status LED on the 8301 has remained amber instead of turning green. Other than that, same symptoms as before.

Device Manager shows a NI SMBus Controller with a yellow bang.

I have few more follow up questions -

#1 The first time you connected the 8301 to the laptop (powered up), did you see a Thunderbolt popup box to a

approve connection to the device? Another way to check is go to Start and search for either "Thunderbolt Software" or "Thunderbolt Control Center" and check if PXIe-8301 is listed as a connected device. This Thunderbolt software should come pre-installed on your Thunderbolt 3 ready laptop.

#2 Do you see the 5652 and 2543 in device manager also?

#3 When you right-click NI SMBus Controller (with the yellow bang) and click properties, what is the error message there? If you right-click and disable the device, then right-click and re-enable the device, does that yellow bang go away?

Has this issue been resolved? I have the same situation. I am using Dell Precision 7530 with 2 builtin thunderbolt ports.

The Chassis shows up fine in the NI MAX with just NI PXI platform services installed, but as soon as I install NI DAQmx or NI scope, the configuration is messed up. I attached the screen shots of both scenarios below. Please let me know how to resolve this
