Remote PXI controller without labview

I have a PXI-1065 chassis with a PXIe-8840 controller and a variety of PXI instruments.

Am I able to configure the system to see the PXI modules in the remote computer's MAX? How?

I've connected them to a switch and configured either's adapter to be static IPs on the same subnet, but can't ping each other.

Do I need to reboot into Labview RT OS for this?

Will I be able to control to the modules with a C# .NET application?  no Labview?

PXI Instruments are programming language agnostic, as long as you use the right driver.

What OS is installed on your PXIe-8840?
