Test System Security Presentations - May 2023

We held our Spring 2023 Test System Security Summit on May 22, 2023 in Austin Texas with half the attendees joining remotely. We had four topics, which we recorded and are sharing here:

Secure Software Development Lifecycle Process – Sam Sharp, Agilent shared an overview of the need for system security and the components that make up a solid security strategy in product development. The challenge now, to NI and to our customer developers, is to learn, understand, and adopt these security tools and practices. These are the topics we’ll dive into in future presentations. You can find Sam’s presentation at https://forums.ni.com/t5/Test-System-Security/Adding-another-S-to-your-SDLC-Secure-Software-Developm....

Encryption in LabVIEW – Jim Kring, JKI shared the basics of encryption starting with the XOR function and building all the way up to the need for robust encryption like AES. We are linking here to an older version of the same presentation, where Jim had a little more time to dive into the details:

AES Encryption in LabVIEW – We shared an overview of the LabVIEW Advanced Encryption Standard Crypto Toolkit from Alab available from https://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/software/products/advanced-encryption-standard-crypto-toolkit.html. This toolkit gives you high-level, easy-to-use AES encryption functions in LabVIEW. We also mention the SHA toolkit from University of Leeds. (https://www.vipm.io/package/university_of_leeds_lib_sha256/). Video presentation at https://youtu.be/NwgE9UmHd0s.

Vulnerability Testing of Test Systems – Chris Russell, Smartfirm IT (https://www.smartfirmit.com/shared) an overview of system vulnerability testing and approaches companies take to testing OT systems. See the video at https://youtu.be/vYTt94jQZcs

Next meeting planned for October 2023 and will be virtual. Steve will send out invites when the date is set.
