Hardware for 4x4 MIMO?

Hi,

I am a postgraduate student and I my studies are on MIMO. All my work so far has been in MATLAB and I have decent results with power gains and channel estimation.

As a next step, we are considering the possibility of running field tests (subject to funding) and I am investigating how the hardware should be set up.

Please correct me if I am wrong or make suggestions. My conclusion is that I need a few USRP like SDRs to make up the MIMO configuration. The local distributor has B210, 2952R, and 2901 with 2x2 transceiver. So if I have three of these I can use two of them at the transmitter and have 4 transmit antennas and use one at the receiver and have 2 receive antennas, thus a 4x2 MIMO.

Here is one of my questions, how do I synch and share code with multiple transmitters? Do I need both MIMO cable and OctoClock? Do I connect only one of the devices through USB and end up having a master and slave like configuration for multiple transmitters? Aslo, the local distributor does not list OctoClock in its website, but there is another "clock distribution device", which is probably the same?

Do I need any other hardware to complete the set up?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Also, any alternative hardware configuration suggestions would also be helpful.

Hello.

I would like to know how you want to proceed with your project. Are you thinking of using open source, or you are going to use LabView ?

Which USRP are you going to use, Ettus USRP, or NNI USRP ?

Best Regards.
