Change computer id

Hello there! This will get a bit longer now, but first of all my main question: is there any way of changing the Computer ID on a system (by reinstalling the software or whatever).

Now to my problem...

I'm a working student @ Whirlpool product engineering and went into huge problems with NI Software and Acronis True Image...

In the semester break I've made a special image for our division and included a copy of Diadem 11.1 and Diadem 2010. After installing the images I went into a tricky problem.

Even after changing the Windows serial and the SID of every system, NI License Manager still gives me the same computer id for every laptop. Now I have to call NI to get a new generated license for our volume license manager via mac-id for every machine.

After a bit of research I found out that there is a way to solve the problem by creating a special Diadem installation via VLM network installer, which got me to some more problems. Our local it division, which manages the license manager in the building, is on holidays already and I'm not able to get all the needed information for the NI telephone support they want (licensing model and so on) 😞

Now I need to get some more laptops running till x-mas and I've tried to deinstall every piece of NI software on one of the laptops and reinstalled them all, but I still get the same Computer ID. The only way for me now would to make a clean Image of Windows 7 without any Diadem Software installed which would cost me a lot of time for modifications of Windows and I'd have to reinstall every laptop in the lab (our engineers want to have a clean solution for further versions).

Is there any way you know that could help me out?

best regards

Hi Sandokhan,

strange, normally each machine should have a different ID...

Please have a look at the reg-file attached: After its execution every machine should have it's own Comuter ID.

For further information also see the link below:

I had the same problem last year. I created an image of a Windows XP machine with sysprep and cloned it to others, and I ended up with all machines in the computer lab having the same Computer ID. Like you, I made sure that all machines have a unique SID, but that doesn't seem to matter.
