difference in frequency mesure between use of one counter and multiple counter

hello, i would like to mesure frequency with NI PCI 6624 in different points, so i have found some examples where it is used in such of them one counter and in other it is used 2 counter to one mesure , i would like to distinguish the difference or the interest to use multiple counter for one mesure , tanks

The reason to use different methods is to increase the accuracy for high frequency signals or for signals with a large range at the expense of using another counter.
