Unread SPAM messages…

Hi,

why are messages, which are "marked as SPAM" in their message options, still shown as "unread topics"?

See those Korean messages in the lower left of the screenshot:

Why does the forum don't hide these messages in the "unread" list as well?

Best regards,
GerdW

Gerd -

It might take some time for the system to move the spam to the quarantine, especially when there is a large volume.

I just checked the LabVIEW board and I do not see these topics in the unread topics list at this time. Are you still seeing this?

Thanks,

Lili

Hi Lili,

now there are 5 new messages/topics on top of the LabVIEW board, so the "Unread topics" also shows just those 5 threads…

In the meantime I saw just one (instead of 3) SPAM thread(s) in the "Unread" section. When I open the "Unread discussions" list (by clicking the ">") I still see these SPAM threads, right now at postion 8 - 10…

Best regards,
GerdW

Can you check again to see if it's changed now?

Hi Lili,

when I open the "Unread topics" list by clicking at the ">" to get to the "Unread discussions" page I still see all those Korean SPAM…

Btw. there is a slight inconsistency: first it is named "unread topics", after clicking the link the list now is called "unread discussions"…

(see attached screenshot)

GerdW

It seems to me that this is occurring based on the node a certain user is hitting at the time. I cannot replicate the issue consistently on various accounts. We will have to escalate this to our community provider for further investigation. Also, thanks for noting the discrepancy in terminology.

I've seen the same, but it typically normalizes within a few minutes. They do disappear eventually once all server sync up.

Update:

Right now there seems to be a great amount of SPAM messages generated.

- Good point: after marking them as SPAM they also vanish from "Unread topics".

- Bad point: how can one forum member generate so many (very similar) messages within seconds?

Best regards,
GerdW

Hi Christian,

Bot?

There are bots involved, no question.

My question aimed at: why does the forum software allow to post many very similar messages in a short period of time? Why does it allow to start new discussion threads that often?

(Hint: how long does it take to write a new message on average? Is 30s-45s an appropriate time limit?)

Best regards,
GerdW
