Acquire Sound Express VI in Windows 8

Tom,

Did you mean you tried the express VI on LabVIEW 2013 for MacOS? What did you mean by "physical mac mini"?

Mac Mini has support for Apple iPhone headset with microphone - does the Sound Express VI gets the sound from that microphone? Otherwise what have you used for sound input on Mac?

Hi Vladiator,

Yes, the express VI worked on LabVIEW 2013 for Mac.  The "mac mini" is just the product line and I included it to indicate that this was not a Windows PC running an OSX virtual machine.

I used a microphone plugged into the standard audio jack on the computer.

Tom,

Where do I download LabVIEW 2013 for Mac?

Did you use Audio In port? Does your microphone plug has 3 or 4 sections?

Thanks!

Vlad

Hi Vladiator,

If you have a serial number that includes 2013 registered to your user account, I believe you should be able to access LabVIEW 2013 for Mac at ni.com/downloads.  Otherwise, the evaluation version is available here:

https://lumen.ni.com/nicif/us/evallv/content.xhtml

Note that you'll have to select the "Additional Operating System and Language Downloads of LabVIEW" option just under the top "download" button. The eval isn't activatable and will expire, so if you can I would activate your serial number and download the regular installer (or use the 2013 discs if you have them already).

Yes, I used the audio in port - the audio source I used has a TRS (three section) connector.  Apple's documentation is rather vague on the internal physical interface of the "3.5 mm mini phone jack" connector - it might be worth checking with them (Apple) if your microphone isn't doing anything in the OS's built in audio configuration tools. I don't have a TRRS (four section) microphone/headset handy to test with.

Tom,

What Device # did you use for the Acquire Sound input on Mac? Device #0 gets the sound from internal micrphone. I'd like to use the Line IN microphone that comes with the headphones. Any idea how to get the Device # for this imput?

Thanks!

Seems like you should be able to go to your System Preferences>>Hardware>>Sound>>Input, and see where your microphone is listed.  If the first item is the internal MIC and you already know that is #0, then the second mic should be #1.  Did you already try that and it didn't work?

Shane,

By default it is the internal microphone, and when I connect the external microphone, the Mac OS automatically changes it to external port. So I assume #0 is assigned to the expernal microphone when it is connected.

Thanks!
